Demonstration and hands-on workshops

Join Patrizia for a series of workshops, Bordighera,

Italian Riviera near THE French border

1:  Adding dimension through texture - July 10, 2024, 10:30 to 12:00

2:  Creating a colorful and expressive background - September - date TBA

3:  Final details and finishes - October - date TBA

1: In the initial workshop Patrizia explores the basic approaches professional artist use to painting on canvas. The first step: create your own impasto (gesso) or base layer. Then Patrizia will guide you through various techniques of applying the gesso to an unprimed canvas adding texture and depth, quality elements difficult to achieve on a mass-produced, pre-primed canvas. Incorporating found objects and other items expand the creative process for a bah-relief beginning to your opera.

2: Working with acrylic paints, washes and glazes, Patrizia will demonstrate ways to add these background elements in expressive, spontaneous ways to bring out the mood or feeling you wish to convey — soft, subtle, strong, vibrant etc. Discussions regarding basic artistic concepts and principles will be woven into the workshops, such as elements of art, principles of design, color theory, etc. — key factors that make an art piece unique and alluring .

3: Once texture and background have been rendered on your canvas, Patrizia will continue to show and guide you through the details and steps to creating your ultimate creative vision. Abstract, figurative, or nature inspired (here the list is unlimited) add a finishing plash, line or color to your personal, awe inspiring masterpiece, down to a final varnish and hanging applications.
